The Ordinance is brought as an amendment to Epidemic Diseases Act, any person who attacks a health worker treating COVID-19 cases would be punished.

Both Centre and State can exercise these powers

Investigation has to be completed within a span of 30 days from the date of compliant and the judgement therein has to be pronounced within a period of 1 year.

Material loss incurred by the health worker

Any material losses whatsoever incurred to the health worker, the guilty party has to compensate the loss by paying DOUBLE the market value of the loss made by them.

Punishment in Normal cases

  • Imprisoned for a term of 3 months to 5 years or
  • Fine of Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 2,00,000,

Punishment in Serious cases

  • Imprisoned for a term of 6 months to 7 years
  • Fine of Rs. 1,00,000 to Rs. 7,00,000
